Department of Philology of the Near and Middle East

Department of Philology of the Near and Middle East was founded on October 11, 1993 and is currently the main educational and scientific structural unit of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and International Relations of the Bishkek Humanitarian University. The department carries out professional training of bachelors in the fields of "Oriental Studies, African Studies" (Languages of Asian and African Countries (Arabic, Persian and Turkish)) and "Linguistics" (Theory and Practice of Intercultural Communication), masters in the field of "Oriental Studies, African Studies" (Languages of Asian and African Countries) with knowledge of Arabic, Persian and Turkish, and also carries out language training of bachelors in the fields of "International Relations" and "Oriental Studies, African Studies" (History of Asian and African Countries), "Business Informatics", "Business Management", "Economics".

The department of linguistics teaches two oriental languages simultaneously. The Department of Philology of the Near and Middle East is one of the main centers for training orientalists-philologists and orientalists-linguists in the Kyrgyz Republic. The scientific activity of the department is focused on the study of current problems of modern linguistics and teaching oriental languages.

The department's teachers are actively working on the creation and regular updating of textbooks and teaching aids, including in the format of educational and methodological complexes (EMC), on general language, the language of the profession, the theory and practice of translation, and the development of oral speech skills.

Over the years, the department has published bilingual dictionaries:

“Arabic-Kyrgyz dictionary”,

"Kyrgyz-Persian dictionary",

as well as a number of other specialized dictionaries.

  The department staff consists of both experienced specialists and young teachers who actively adopt the experience of their senior colleagues, while maintaining established traditions. For many years, the department has been training specialists for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and other departments and organizations that maintain relations with the countries of the foreign East.

Graduates of the department work in diplomatic missions of Eastern countries, in institutions engaged in foreign economic activity, news agencies, and research institutes. In general, graduates of the department are in demand in academic, analytical, and practical work related to Eastern countries.
