DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS, FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING

History of the Department

         The Department of Economics, Finance, and Accounting was formed by merging two related departments—Finance and Credit and Economics—in accordance with Order No. 05-4/62 of the Rector of Bishkek State University named after K. Karasayev dated July 13, 2022. 

Mission of the Department – training highly qualified specialists with the necessary level of professional competencies in the fields of economics, finance, and accounting, capable of competing in the context of innovative development and modernization.

Goals:

  • Ensuring a high level of education in line with national and international standards.
  • Developing analytical thinking, professional ethics and practical skills in students.
  • Development of research activities in the economic and financial spheres.
  • Implementation of innovative educational technologies and modern digital tools into the educational process.

Tasks:

  • Organization of a high-quality educational process in economic, financial and accounting disciplines.
  • Preparing students for practical work in the field of economics, finance and accounting.
  • Organization of scientific conferences, seminars, round tables.
  • Conducting scientific research and publishing results in domestic and foreign scientific journals.
  • Developing cooperation with organizations and enterprises for practical training and internships.
  • Improving the qualifications of teachers and exchanging experience with other universities.

Currently, the department trains bachelors in the field of 580100 "Economics":

Educational programs are implemented in the form of correspondence education using distance learning technologies.

Duration of training:

• 5 years – based on secondary education.

In addition to the department's faculty, specialists with extensive experience in teaching and scientific-practical work, leading specialists from commercial banks, audit firms, stock exchanges and other organizations participate in the training of personnel.

The department trains specialists in economics for work on stock exchanges, in banks, insurance companies, investment companies, enterprises in various sectors of the economy, in budgetary organizations, state authorities and local governments.

PRACTICE

Student practice

Internships, as part of the educational process, are conducted with the aim of consolidating and expanding the knowledge acquired by students at the university; acquiring the necessary practical skills for working in their specialty in a production environment; and mastering advanced technology and labor methods.

Internships promote students' independent work. During their internships, students learn to independently select and organize information within the context of assigned tasks; apply their acquired knowledge in practice; study the technology and equipment used in a specific production environment; develop teamwork skills; and exercise self-monitoring.

According to the curriculum and state educational standards, students undergo three types of practical training during their studies:

  • Educational practice - 3rd year, 6th semester;
  • Industrial practice - 4th year, 8th semester;
  • Pre-qualification practice – 5th year, 10th semester.

Educational practice

Internships for all graduating programs are conducted at companies or institutions with which contracts have been signed. These companies serve as bases for students to become familiar with their future specialty and the specific aspects of its work. The purpose of internships is to adapt, consolidate, and deepen students' theoretical knowledge, and to acquire basic practical skills and competencies in their professional field.

The objectives of the practice are:

— formation of primary ideas about management activities in organizations of various types;

— familiarization with the organization’s regulatory documents;

— development of analytical and research skills;

— formation and development of the ability to apply acquired knowledge to solve management problems;

— formation and development of the ability to design and implement communications, apply quantitative and qualitative methods of information analysis, build organizational and management models to solve specific management problems, conduct an audit of human resources, carry out diagnostics of organizational culture and the organization as a whole; analyze the functional strategies of the organization, perform management functions;

— development of skills in maintaining databases for various indicators and generating information support for participants in organizational projects, organizing and maintaining relationships with business partners;

— development of skills to identify risks and intervals of acceptable levels of fixed costs; analyze the external and internal environment of the organization, identify its key elements and assess their impact on the organization;

Profile practice

This internship brings students closer to their profession and allows them to determine their future field of study. Students independently complete assignments based on the internship, thereby developing the skills needed for their future profession.

The purpose of industrial practice is to consolidate the student’s theoretical training and acquire practical skills and competencies in the field of professional activity, experience of independent professional activity, and skills in researching management systems.

Pre-qualification practice

During the pre-qualification internship, the student studies the specifics of the organization or institution, collects material for the final qualifying work, and conducts research, which then becomes the experimental part of the final qualifying work.

The purpose of the pre-qualification internship is to consolidate and deepen the student's theoretical knowledge and acquire practical skills and competencies in their professional field, experience in independent professional work, and practical skills in management systems research. The objectives of the internship are:

— mastering analytical and research skills, skills in human resource audit, diagnostics of the organization and its environment;

— development of skills to apply knowledge to solve management problems, resolve conflict situations when designing communications, analyze and develop strategies, apply quantitative and qualitative methods of information analysis, analyze the organization's risks for making management decisions, build models for solving real management problems; perform management functions, establish rational connections between the elements of the organization;

— development of skills in documenting decisions in the management of an organization, maintaining databases on various indicators and forming information support for participants in organizational projects, organizing and maintaining relationships with business partners;

— development of skills to analyze financial information, the external and internal environment of the organization, identify its key elements and assess their impact on the organization.

The organization of students' activities during the internship period is based on regulatory and educational-methodological materials approved by the department.
