On January 11, 2023, the official launch of the project “Green and Digital Universities for Sustainable Development of Kyrgyzstan (GREEN KG)” took place at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic named after Kazy Dikambaev. The project is implemented with the financial support of the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.

The Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic acts as the project coordinator. The initiative is aligned with the priorities of the European Green Deal and the national strategy aimed at increasing environmental awareness.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions in Kyrgyzstan in the fields of sustainable development, digitalization, and environmentally oriented policies. Within the framework of the project, a model of a “green and digital university” will be developed and implemented, with the potential for nationwide application.

Special attention will be given to the establishment of Green Digital Offices (GDOs), which will promote efficient resource management, reduction of environmental impact, and the integration of energy- and resource-saving practices into university operations.

The project consortium includes leading universities of Kyrgyzstan, such as the Bishkek State University named after K. Karasaev, Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I. Razzakov, Osh State University, Naryn State University named after S. Naamatov, as well as the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic.

International partners of the project include the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and Vilnius University, along with the Capacity Building Consulting Group.

The implementation of the GREEN KG project will contribute to improving the quality of education, enhancing the innovation capacity of universities, and strengthening their competitiveness at the international level through the adoption of sustainable and inclusive development principles.
