On May 30, the celebration of the Midsummer Festival, one of the three most important traditional holidays of China, started at the Bishkek State University named after K. Karasaev. The event is held with the assistance of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Confucius Institute at BSU.
The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kyrgyz Republic Liu Jianping, Vice-Rector of BSU Gulzat Isamatova, teachers and students of the university.
The Midsummer Festival, also known as the Double Fifth Festival (Duanwu Jie or Duan Yang), has a rich history and symbolism. It is associated with the cult of the dragon, a symbol of good luck and prosperity in Chinese culture. One of the main traditions of the festival is dragon boat racing. In addition, on this day it is customary to eat zongzi (rice cakes wrapped in bamboo leaves), hang aromatic herbs to protect against diseases and evil spirits.
Such events serve as a foundation for further development of relations between our countries. We have great potential for strengthening friendly ties and introducing students to Chinese culture and language," noted the representative of the PRC Embassy. As part of the celebration, a rich cultural program was held. BSU students and schoolchildren presented creative numbers, exhibitions, master classes on cooking Chinese cuisine, demonstrations of traditional Chinese games, as well as the art of calligraphy were organized.
