Department of Pedagogy and Psychology

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Pedagogy and Psychology was founded in 1979 on the basis of the Frunze Pedagogical Institute of Russian Language and Literature. .
The first head of the department was Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Pedagogical Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic Mukash Rustavletovich Baltabaev (1979–1982).
In subsequent years, the department was headed by:
Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Maria Abdykerimovna Abdykerimova;
Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Mikhail Grigorievich Zhulenkov;
Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Kashkar Zhunushevich Dzhumabaev;
Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Ryskeldi Nurmanbetovich Toksonbaev;
Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Mira Alymbekovna Muratalieva;
Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Gulnura Alpochoevna Dzhumagulova.
Currently, the department is headed by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Elzada Sydykovna Sabyrova.
Outstanding scientists, educators, and psychologists of Kyrgyzstan worked at the department. Among them were Professor V.M. Grebennikov, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences; Associate Professor L.I. Kubatieva; Professor Z.V. Andreeva, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences; Associate Professor M.G. Zhulenkov; Professor I.R. Khalitova; Associate Professor A.A. Mashkevich; Associate Professor V.A. Nuzhniy; and senior lecturers K.T. Tulegenov, A.G. Tynystanova, and T.Zh. Zhumagulov.
In 1989, in the context of the expansion of the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature, the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology continued the active development of its activities.
DIRECTIONS
Training of specialists is carried out according to the following educational programs:
Social pedagogy
The program is aimed at developing professional competencies in the field of education, social support, and support for children, adolescents, and families.
Social pedagogy and psychology
A comprehensive program combining pedagogical and psychological training aimed at solving the problems of teaching, education, and psychological and pedagogical support of the individual.
Speech therapy
The program is aimed at training specialists in the field of diagnosis and correction of speech disorders, including in inclusive education settings.
EDUCATIONAL PROCESS
The educational process at the department is implemented on the basis of the integration of fundamental theoretical training and practice-oriented learning.
The content of educational programs includes the study of disciplines of pedagogical, psychological and special profiles, including:
- pedagogy and psychology
- educational and social psychology
- developmental psychology and communication
- conflictology
- inclusive education
- special psychology and correctional pedagogy
- speech therapy
- neurophysiology
- modern educational technologies
Particular attention is paid to the development of professional competencies, analytical thinking, and readiness to work in a variety of educational practices.
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

The department's research activities are aimed at solving current problems in pedagogy and psychology and are a key factor in improving the quality of the educational process.
Currently, the department is implementing the following research topic:
«"An Ethnopedagogical Approach to the Development of Intercultural Tolerance in Higher Education Students"»
The results of scientific research are tested at international scientific and practical conferences, seminars, and scientific forums with the participation of scientists from Kyrgyzstan and abroad.
Key results (2018–2025):
- more than 100 scientific publications
- over 50 articles in RSCI publications
- more than 10 monographs
- over 20 educational and teaching aids
The department trains scientific and pedagogical personnel through master's and postgraduate programs.
In recent years:
- about 60 postgraduate students have been trained
- 20 graduates successfully defended their PhD dissertations
ACADEMIC MOBILITY
The department actively develops academic mobility as an important tool for integration into the international educational space.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
The department cooperates with leading educational institutions in the near and far abroad.
Key partners include:
- Moscow State Linguistic University
- Bashkir State University named after. M. Akmully
- Zhezkazgan University named after O.A. Baikonurov
- Institute for Advanced Training of Pedagogical Workers (Moscow)
- Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University
Cooperation is implemented through joint scientific research, academic mobility and exchange of educational practices.
PRACTICAL TRAINING
Practical training of students is an integral part of the educational process.
The internship is carried out at educational and social institutions in Bishkek, Chui, Talas and Batken regions.
During the internship, students:
- apply theoretical knowledge
- master professional skills
- gain experience working in real conditions
- develop professional thinking
STUDENT ACTIVITIES
The department creates conditions for students to actively participate in scientific and social life. The following research clubs are in operation:

- «"Psychologist"»
Students take part in
conferences, scientific projects, competitions and educational events.
CENTER AND ADVANCED TRAINING
The department has a center
«"Pedagogical excellence and advanced training of education workers"».
The center's activities are aimed at:
- development of professional competencies of teachers
- organization of trainings and seminars
- implementation of modern educational technologies
The department's faculty actively participates in international projects, including Erasmus+ programs, inclusive education initiatives, and STEM.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES OF GRADUATES
The department's graduates are in demand in the education system, the social sphere, and government structures.
