Department of Japanese Philology
The Department of Japanese Philology is a structural subdivision of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and International Relations. The department produces certified translators, all graduates are in demand in the labor market, work as translators in large industrial companies, leading and chief specialists with knowledge of foreign languages in government agencies.
Students of the department have the opportunity to undergo an internship or study at Japanese universities under academic mobility programs and scholarship programs of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT).
Mission of the Department is to meet the needs of students in linguistic and cultural development through the provision of quality education in the areas of "Linguistics", "Oriental and African Studies (IT)" and "IR"; to contribute to meeting the needs of Kyrgyz society and the state in providing qualified specialists who meet modern standards.
At the Department of Japanese Philology:
- innovative approaches to teaching using the latest methodological developments;
- classes with high-level professionals, including teachers from other countries;
- special subjects are taught in Japanese;
- IT technologies are widely used;
- the opportunity to undergo an internship at the best educational institutions in Japan, etc.
The department has two large library collections – Atomy and Akie. The scientific literature was donated to the Atomy collection by Atomy University (Japan), and to the Akie collection by the wife of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Mrs. Akie, for free use. All these educational materials and manuals are available to our students and researchers.

The Department of Japanese Philology, being a structural division of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and International Relations, trains specialists in the profiles of "Linguistics", "Oriental Studies and African Studies" and "IT Technologies". Also, for those wishing to continue their education, a master's degree department is provided in the following areas: "Oriental Studies, African Studies" and "International Relations".
Scientific activities of the department
Research work of the department is carried out in accordance with the work plan of the research and development work of the Department of Japanese Philology:
- Participation in scientific and practical conferences;
- Conducting scientific, methodological and methodological seminars, as well as participation in similar events held by other educational institutions.
The scientific problem of the department is "Japanese studies and methods of teaching Japanese, language policy". The teachers are mainly engaged in the methods of teaching Japanese in the Kyrgyz Republic and the study of teaching problems.
The faculty members of the department actively participate in the scientific activities of the department, taking part in seminars, conferences, training sessions with the aim of improving scientific qualifications and exchanging methods of teaching Japanese in universities. The faculty members also present their scientific reports at international practical conferences.
The teaching staff of the department, being members of the Association of Teachers of Japanese Language of the Kyrgyz Republic, takes an active part in the activities of the Association, takes part in the organization and implementation of various competitions held by the Association of Teachers of Japanese Language of the Kyrgyz Republic to motivate and improve the level of knowledge of the Japanese language among students of the Japanese department.

NIRS and UIRS
Research work with students is always carried out according to the planned plan. The department holds various competitions, master classes, trainings, events and festivals for students of the Japanese department.
Master classes: Tea ceremony, Ikebana, Calligraphy, dressing in kimono.
Competitions: Master Kana (Hiragana and Katakana), Speech Competition of Public Speaking in Japanese, Competition of Public Speaking in Japanese among CIS Countries, Central Asian Competition of Public Speaking in Japanese, Essay Competition, Drawing Competition, etc.
Students of the department also take part in events and festivals held by the university and the Association of Japanese Language Teachers of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In almost all competitions, students of our department take prize places, thereby proving the competitiveness of our university among other universities of the Kyrgyz Republic and Central Asia.
