Department of Persian and Turkish Philology

The Department of Persian and Turkish Philology was established following the reorganization of the Department of Philology of the Near and Middle East on June 26, 2025, by Order No. 05-4/56. It is an important academic and research unit of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and International Relations at Bishkek Humanitarian University. Despite its recent history, the department has already established itself as a leading center for training specialists in Oriental languages and cultures, focusing on the study of Persian and Turkish languages and their cultural contexts. While still part of the FSBSV department, the Department of Persian and Turkish Philology strengthened ties with the Turkish and Iranian embassies, as well as with Turkish and Persian language and cultural centers and representative offices, and continues this work as a separate, young department. Furthermore, events related to the culture and traditions of these peoples have been and continue to be held. Ties with Turkey and Iran are strengthening, and students are studying at Turkish and Iranian universities.

The department trains undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of Oriental languages, specifically Persian and Turkish, and their application in various fields, such as international relations, economics, and linguistics. Particular attention is paid to the Linguistics program, which offers instruction in two Oriental languages and one Western language (English) simultaneously. The department has over 100 students majoring in Turkish and eight majoring in Persian. Turkish and Persian are also taught as second foreign and second Oriental languages by students in the Arabic and English departments, a total of over 150 students.

The department's faculty actively develops textbooks and teaching aids, including methodological packages for students that help develop written and oral communication skills and provide in-depth study of translation theory and practice. The department also publishes specialized dictionaries and other educational materials, such as Persian-Turkish dictionaries and lexical resources. The department's research focuses on current issues in the linguistics and pedagogy of Asian languages, as well as intercultural communication, reflecting the importance of these disciplines for intercultural understanding and international communication.

The department's faculty consists of both experienced specialists and young faculty members who actively learn from their senior colleagues while preserving the department's unique traditions and approaches. Over the years, the department has trained numerous specialists for the public sector, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and other agencies working with countries in the Middle East.

The department's graduates find employment as highly qualified, sought-after translators and linguistics specialists in diplomatic missions, international organizations, news agencies, and research institutes. They are in demand both academically and professionally, in fields such as linguistics and translation studies, teaching, international relations, foreign trade, and analytical work. Since 2025, graduate placement programs have been underway, particularly for graduates studying Turkish.
